Canis Major
El Can Mayor es una constelación que va detrás (más al este) del gran cazador, de nombre Orión. Su estrella más importante es Sirio, que es la más brillante del cielo nocturno, solo superada en brillo aparente por los planetas Venus, Júpiter y Marte). Alrededor de Sirio orbita, con un período de 50 años, una estrella del tipo enana blanca llamada Sirio B descubierta por el óptico norteamericano Alvan Clark.
